I know I am going to upset the diehard Alfie Boe Fans but i was disapointed in the choice of music. He has decided to switch his music genre to quickly and I feel he may have not brought some of his fans with him. If Alfie feel this is the best road to go down good luck to him. I have no problem with the voice as I feel he is so close to to Coln Wilkingson's Bring him home, But at times. Not sure if he had 100% backing at Bournemouth. Becky is a real find great voice hope to see more of her.…

Jan Morris said… Perhaps Alfie was having a bad day when he said he may not perform in operas again. Perhaps he is fed up with the snobbery and the elitism, as I think he has come up against some snide remarks from people who want to make opera into something it was never supposed to be - as we all know it was the pop music of the day. I believe that Jonathan Miller may have said something rather stinging and perhaps there have been other barbs about him being a "crossover" artist. I expect he feels more at home with people and music genres that do not make judgements or try to put barriers (barricades?) in the way, by elevating one type of music above others, in order perhaps to try to “elevate” themselves and look down at others. I would imagine that Alfie has a well-developed spirituality and I expect the themes of brotherhood and humanitarianism in the musical Les Miserables, may well have brought home to him (no pun intended) a desire to communicate to the widest audience and not to limit himself to the strictures of the world of modern-day opera.
